Global cooperation with an emphasis on sustainability as JGU introduces WULF in Davos

JGU's Sustainable Development Report 2025 was also introduced during the WULF discussion.

The World University Leaders Forum (WULF) is the flagship project of OP Jindal Global University (JGU). The platform was launched with a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum (WEF), Davos, in collaboration with J3D.AI and the House of Collaboration 2026.

WULF is the logical conclusion and institutionalization of JGU's nearly two decades of consistent international involvement.

"Universities in Global Governance: Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals through Knowledge, Policy, and Partnership" was the panel discussion's theme.

Dr. C Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of JGU, stated during the panel discussion,

For the SDGs, cooperation and partnership are crucial. To further the SDGs, colleges must work with other sectors, such as business, government, and non-governmental organizations. Any institution's future agenda will be determined by how important it is to prioritize sustainability from the start. This conversation about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in higher education emphasizes how important it is to develop future leaders, carry out significant research, and promote international cooperation. Multidisciplinary and cooperative research is required, sustainability must be incorporated into courses, and university contributions must be impartial and grounded in facts.

Prof. Marvin Krislov, President of Pace University, New York, USA; Prof. Sherine Farouk, Assistant Chancellor for Global Partnerships and Impact, Abu Dhabi University, UAE; Prof. C Raj Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, JGU, Sonipat, Haryana, India (Chair & Moderator); Prof. Joanna Newman, Provost & Deputy Vice Chancellor, SOAS University of London, UK; Prof. Masa Inakage, Dean, Keio University Graduate School of Media Design, Tokyo, Japan; and Dr. Ashwin Fernandes, Executive Director, QS Quacquarelli Symonds, London, UK.

Prof. Krislov discussed the value of multidisciplinary and cooperative research, citing the New York Climate Exchange and the necessity of international collaborations to successfully implement SDGs. He emphasized that collaborations between business and government would be advantageous when discussing the value of internships in preparing students for the workforce.

Prof. Farouk emphasized that private universities must be flexible in order to promote sustainability. She promoted the allocation of funding specifically for the implementation of sustainable standards in waste management, infrastructure, and community projects.

Professor Newman talked about the necessity of evidence-based policy and knowledge sharing units, as well as the significance of universities as model civic institutions. She discussed the ability of higher education institutions to achieve the SDGs, especially in developing human capital and promoting international cooperation, emphasizing their influence over the government and business.

The Sustainable and Transformative Actions for Regenerative Society (STAR) initiative at Keio University, which focuses on teaching and research across the university in partnership with the UN, was highlighted by Prof. Inakage. Additionally, he talked on educating pupils to guarantee a sustainable and regenerative society.

Dr. Fernandes discussed the importance of multidisciplinary research in accomplishing the SDGs and the necessity for academic institutions to track and publish their sustainability indicators.

Through strategic alliances and the exchange of expertise, WULF has developed into a platform for improving cooperation and advancing SDGs.

JGU's Sustainable Development Report 2025, which provides evidence-based insights into how universities are supporting global governance, policy innovation, and sustainable development through research-driven engagement and cross-sector partnerships, was also introduced during the WULF dialogue.
